Akira Hongo

iLEAP TOMODACHI Social Innovation in Seattle, 2014

Akira’s Story

Born in Shizuoka, Akira just graduated from the Tokyo University of Technology where he studied Digital Media. Akira studied English in Vancouver, Canada for one month before moving to Toronto for a year to volunteer at the non-profit, JAVA Toronto. Meeting new people, both in and outside of Japan, has given Akira the opportunity to meet numerous people with different viewpoints and values, allowing his own values and views to be reshaped. He is a strong proponent of challenging himself in new ways, even when chances of success seem slim. His life’s motivations are meeting people through doing things he is passionate about, the feeling of accomplishment, and seeing other’s benefit from what he does. Akira is currently creating a homepage that is easily accessible to Japanese people for the JET program, a program that employs teachers from around the world to teach English.

He is very excited to meet the rest of the SIIS TOMODACHI 2014 scholars and is looking forward to being in Seattle.
